PRIORITISING TASKS

An important part of your role is organising the team and deciding which tasks should be done first. You are responsible for planning the workday so the most important jobs are completed at the right time.

In this activity, you will be given six maintenance tasks to schedule in a timetable from 7:00am to 4:00pm. Your goal is to assign tasks and plan the day so the team prioritises correctly.

When planning, consider safety, urgency, the potential consequences of delays, and whether a task is routine or time sensitive.

Safety

Complete tasks that prevent accidents or injuries first, such as fixing handrails or checking smoke alarms.

Urgency

Some jobs need to be done quickly to prevent bigger problems, like clearing blocked drains.

Impact on Others

Prioritise tasks that keep areas safe and accessible for everyone.

Routine Work

Tasks that don’t affect safety or urgent operations, like trimming hedges, can be done later.
