RECORDING SEEDLING GROWTH

Now that your trays are set up in the nursery, it’s important to keep track of how your seedlings grow.

There are five main stages
of plant growth

The plant grows taller, develops more leaves, and establishes a strong root system.

04. Vegetative Growth

The seed absorbs water, swells, and begins to sprout roots and shoots.

02. Germination

The young plant develops its first leaves and starts producing energy through photosynthesis.

03. Seedling

The plant’s life begins in a seed, which contains all the nutrients it needs to start growing.

THE DOTS

The plant is fully grown and can produce flowers, fruits, or seeds to start the cycle again.

05. Mature Plant / Reproduction

Environmental teams record plant progress so they know when seedlings are strong enough to be transplanted into
the rehabilitation area.
In this activity, you’ll build a photo log by choosing the correct images that match each stage of growth.
